Denim in the Perspective of a Fashion Garment

July 23, 2010 · Posted in Industry · Comments Off

Evolution of Jeans:

Jeans has been, and is an important item of clothing for many decades. Denim garments came into existence during the 18th century, a time when there was abundant production of cotton. During that period, it gained importance due to its aspects of durability, and not easily torn which benefited physical laborers much. During the 19th century the garment was popularized by Levi Strauss, a well known name in the jean world. Denim clothing was manufactured by them for miners. 20th century brought jeans as a fad of pop culture. Western cowboy movies portrayed people wearing blue jeans. The 50s witnessed the cloth becoming a craze of the teen age population. Manufacturers utilized the situation by coming up with innovative designs like new colors, embroidery and patch works. During 60s and 70s bell bottoms and hip hugger patterns became popular.

It was during the 80s denims started drawing attention of the fashion designers. New and glamorous patterns were created and were brought to lime light by popular models in commercials. Puffy pants, puffy shoulder pads, and puffy hair became a style. In the 90s; it became one of the most sought after garment. To skim the cream of the denim market, manufacturers then, came up with various innovative ideas of using the denim fabric like poodle skirts, caps, handbags etc. It was during that time the denim sales skyrocketed. Currently the new millennium finds denim in each and every home; worldwide.

Denim as a Fashion Icon:

From the place of normal clothing, denim has risen to be a fashion icon and is being adorned by fashion models. It has now become a symbol of modeling and modern culture. The metamorphosis of jeans from a commodity to a fashion item happened during the 90s; when jeans evaluated into a number of various other items such as jackets, shorts, skirts etc apart from the normal pants. Earlier different models like hippie bellbottoms, and tapered legs, were popular. Current trend is all about variety and views denim as an item with bold styles to keep pace with the fast track life style.

Fashion For The Full Size Woman

July 10, 2010 · Posted in Industry · Comments Off

It is an open secret that most women are not size two and they are not six feet tall. And yet, the tiny percentage of the population who conforms to those dimensions seems to be the target of the fashion industry. Rarely do you see fashion that is targeted at the full size woman.

For years the full size woman has been treated as a minority while in fact they have been the majority. Full size women are not only mothers and housewives they are also business women. Trends are shifting and one even sees full size woman models here and there.

It is as if the fashion industry is slowly starting to wake up to the fact that there is a lucrative market for the taking. Not only are they also fashion conscious and sometimes dedicated fashion divas, but the full size woman can look absolutely spectacular in clothing designed for her posture.

There are several stores and boutiques that now specialize in full size clothing. They carry everything from intimate wear to business and evening wear. These stores not only know but they celebrate that real women do have curves, and they also aim to make plus size women looking and feeling beautiful and keeping pace with the latest fashion trends.

Just because a woman is not a size two does not mean that she is not active or even athletic. Plus size clothing, whilst long overdue, is quickly catching up with the fashion world. As the designers prepare for their spring and fall fashion shows many are also creating plus size fashion lines that will focus solely on the woman with curves. This is wonderful news for the full size women, because more and more they can look just as fashionable as that size two six foot tall model on the runway.

Designer plus size clothing must have quality, fashion and functionality in order for the plus size woman to buy their products.

Being a size two is not the norm in everyday life and while fashion designers have not entirely caught up with the real woman, they are getting there one stitch at a time and winning over consumers. Fashion for the full size woman is fun, flirty, fashionable, exciting and beautiful. Just like the women who wear the clothing.

Pierre Perissel recommends this wide selection of suits for the full size woman. Pierre has a trendy fashion information column on TheFashionPro.com.

Children’s Fashion

October 16, 2009 · Posted in Business Grants · Comments Off

So you get a baby and suddenly you need to get into the Baby Fashion Scene. When I got mine I was flabbergasted when I met all the trends in baby fashion. What was that all about?? Your child apparently needs to be so very well dressed so it reflects on you being a cool parent with lots of time on your hands to be shopping for expensive brands.

The term “fashion accessories” is very broad and includes a number of products. Just like fashion clothing pieces, accessories come in virtually every size, shape and style under the sun. There are fashion accessories that are designed for children, teens, men, women, petite sized, and plus sized individuals.

As the children’s clothing industry was growing in popularity, more and more fashion designers decided to focus their work exclusively on designing clothes for young children and babies. Soon, the offer became more and more diversified, children’s clothes gaining a lot in aspect and originality.

Trends are apparent in all classifications of the fashion industry. Trends in children’s wear may be viewed as one of the most influential. This is due to the fact that children and teens have such a great buying power, despite their inability to work or earn income. Much of this year’s designs feature bold and contrasting colors, allowing for individual flair and style.

Oil paintings from that era show wealthier families all dressed in their finest outfits. Sons wore fancy velvet suits with lace collars, and daughters wore elaborate dresses with layer upon layer of fancy silk. The richer you were, the more silk you wanted to show off. Folks from poorer situations, wore simpler clothes of rougher fabric, including wool, cotton and linen, or well worn hand me downs.

Safety eyewear may be worn when using lathes, saws, sanders and other power tools. Safety eyewear should cover the front of your eyes and the sides and top of your eyes so that particles will not get into the eyes and cause damage. Safety eyewear with polycarbonate lenses (impact resistant) are an excellent idea.

The benefits of attending an online school are obvious. You do not have to leave your job to go to school. You can study and take tests right from your home. If you have young children at home, you can study and work during your own time, after the children are in bed or when they are down for their naps. It is a perfect opportunity for those who have limited time to still be able to do something that they want to do.

Children’s clothes boutiques are focusing more on accessories and fabrics for girl’s formal dresses. Embroidered and glittery designs are among the latest additions to gowns for the older girls and formal dresses for the younger ones.

African themes will make the most splash with rich traditional prints such as kente, bringing back stylish new dashikis and royal mud cloth fabrics. The African themes will not only give pride and a real chance to show case African culture to all African American children, but it also give everyone else a chance to enjoy the essence of Africa as well without any inhibitions.

You can find women’s eyewear and fashion sunglasses at affordable prices. An online eyeglass store has a variety of styles to complement any woman’s style or personality. You will be able to find fashion designer sunglasses including Gucci, Versace, and Calvin Klein sunglasses in a variety of styles and colors.

‘Gandhi chic’ Fashion Show Held to Promote Handwoven Clothing

October 5, 2009 · Posted in Business Grants · Comments Off

A fashion show- ‘Gandhi chic’ – was organized at Kolkata to attract todays youth towards the handwoven fabric ‘khadi’ promoted by the father of the Nation. The show was held on 2nd October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The show displayed a range of homespun sarees of east India along with other apparels. The “homespun” fabrics were championed by Mahatma Gandhi in the 1930s during his struggle against British rule as a way of boosting the rural economy and showing pride in products produced in India.

“The show reflects a new trend. Indian youths are taking it as new fashion,” said Tajas Gandhi, a well-known local designer who is not related to the Mahatma. On the other hand, Mamabendra Mukherjee, West Bengal small cottage industries minister said,  “The government is promoting ‘Gandhi chic’ to rejuvenate the hand-woven cotton and silk industry in the state, where unemployment is growing.”

Thousands of people could be seen at the venue who came to watch the show. The unique fashion show featured well-known film stars and actors from film industry. Locket Chatterjee, one of West Bengal’s best-known film actresses also did catwalk wearing red-bordered white cotton sari.

Demand for hand-woven fabrics has suffered over the last few decades after synthetics became popular in the market. However, Bengali designers say new styles and bright shades are increasingly attracting young people. This can also be seen in internationally famed fashion designers’ works such as those of Sabyasachi Mukherjee who has started the mission of popularizing traditional Indian hand made sarees and other clothing. He also introduced chhotu saree, (which is worn till ankles) keeping in view the comfort for today’s woman.

Deepa Roy recommends reading more about Indian women clothing at http://www.indianwomenclothing.com/, the comprehensive directory of Indian women clothing companies and also a great resource for those who love to gather knowledge about Indian sarees, salwar kameez, lehnga and other Indian dresses.
