How to Stay Ahead in Fashion
If you want to be ahead of the game and find out what’s hot in the world of fashion you have two choices. One – you get a job as a fashion editor for a hugely glamorous magazine or two – you visit a website that tells you what’s new out in the world of fashion! One of these is very tricky and there’s a long waiting list of people ahead of you – and the second option is easy. All the Clothes has just launched it’s fashion news section. This will keep you up to date with all the new items from loads of great shops. They scour the what’s new lists, visit the top fashion sites they know you love and bring you everything you need to be wearing cutting edge fashion.
Even visiting the cat walk shows doesn’t guarantee you being able to buy what’s being shown. Many companies take their leads from the big fashion shows at Paris and London and design their new ranges round the themes and colours of the cat walk fashion.
Fashion seems to constantly change. What’s trendy one week can be old hat the next! Some fashion seems more prone to fading quickly – anything that’s really unusual will be more likely to be out of favour. Plainer clothes are likely to be wearable longer, but sometimes new cutting edge styles stay and change a little with the times. When items are flexible to change, can be made from different fabrics, and even worn by different age groups then an item will be long lasting.
For some sections of fashion – like underwear, new technologies really help widen the range available. Machine embroidery means bras can be prettier than ever before. For some clothing a return to hand embroidery has been important and has bought about some really pretty changes to the high street fashion.

The Return of London Fashion Week
Provisional dates for London’s fashion week are 16-23 September 2007. Fashion weeks tend to be held several months before the season, which gives press and buyers a chance to preview designs in advance. The last London Fashion Week was a huge success, bringing more than £100 million worth of business to London. Expectation is high for the next event, which many hope will be just as successful.
What We Can Expect
It’s the first fashion week since top stylist Isabella Blow died in May. As Blow kick-started the careers of both Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen, we’re expecting to see many tributes. Models such as Lily Cole, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Agyness Deyne are being lined up to sashay down the catwalk in the latest designs.
The last London Fashion Week in February 2007 was a huge success with £40 million worth of orders and a huge £24 million of media coverage. Following London Fashion Week will be London Fashion Weekend, which takes place at the Natural History Museum and offers visitors the opportunity to purchase designer clothes at sales prices.
Next Season Predictions
We’re eagerly anticipating next season’s trends. Will next summer prove to be the season for you to dust off your capri pants? Who knows!
The Designers
Luella Bartley will show her Spring/Summer 2008 collection at fashion week, which also coincides with the launch of her new flagship store in Mayfair. It’s unclear whether Vivienne Westwood is showing this year but if she does, we never fail to be impressed by the grand dame of fashion.
It was Marc Jacobs in February but who will be the talk of Fashion Week in September? Fashion week favourite Hussein Chalayan should be returning with a collection that promises a blend of simplicity and volume. There are also rumours that John Galliano is returning to London with another one of his spectacularly outlandish collections. Inspired by the French Revolution, one of his last shows featured a realistic-looking guillotine and so we’re can’t wait to see what he’ll do this time. Hot young designer Henry Holland is also one to look out for. His cheeky House of Holland label is guaranteed to raise a smile with bitchy slogan t-shirts and androgynous styling. Needless to say, we’re expecting Julien McDonald to dazzle us with a glamourous Givenchy show.
The Fashion Industry and Model’s Health
Since the death of catwalk models Luisel Ramos and Ana Carolina Reston, fashion bosses have been under increasing pressure to ban size zero models. However, it’s unclear whether they plan to do this at fashion week. However, the organisers of Madrid Fashion Week 2006 banned models with a Body Mass Index below 18 and pressure is mounting on London Fashion Week bosses to do the same.
The Independent Model Health Inquiry has also found it “profoundly inappropriate” that young girls should be portrayed as adult women on the catwalk and have called for them to be banned from fashion week. However, it is unclear whether they will be. Lily Cole, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell all modelled before their sixteenth birthday but should they have been allowed to?
Discover More about Fashion Week
If you’re eager for more news and gossip, stay tuned. We’ll be at the shows in September, bringing you the hottest looks straight from the catwalk.

Starting your own Fashion Design Business
What a lot of people don’t realise is that many fashion design businesses have started out as just a small home business. In a lot of cases these businesses would even have been started from their kitchen table or spare bedroom. The fashion business is definitely a business which could be started from home and on a very small budget.
Laura Ashley was one such designer who started her design business on her kitchen table in London. She went on to build a very successful international design business.
Another international fashion designer whose fashion design talent was sown in his own home and at a very early age was the designer, Bruce Oldfield.
They, amongst other designers, have inspired many to live out their dream of owning their own fashion design business and following their footsteps to success.
The fun and pleasure of creating your own designs can start at any age. Once the fashion bug takes hold, it can be a very exciting and exhilarating time. The
adrenaline will constantly being stirred by the creation and completion of new designs. These designs may have been inspired by the most unusual items, such as a brick, the sunset, an old pattern, an architectural building, or any item.
If you find yourself sketching or doodling designs on every spare piece of paper, then you most likely have a hidden talent yourself for being a fashion designer.
Why not give yourself the opportunity to start a fashion business from your own home?
You could specialise in various niches, including women’s clothing, full size clothing, gothic clothing etc. One way of starting your business would be to create a few samples of your designs and then promote them with the help of friends at house parties to find out if they are marketable.
When you have completed this initial research, you should then take your new business to the next level, which would be to prepare your business plan.
There are certain qualities required to run a fashion design business and two of the most important ones are, tenacity and determination. There will be many times when
working on your fashion business that you will feel like giving up and this will be entirely because of the enormous amount of work involved. This is when the tenacity quality will be required. You will have to have enough determination to achieve all the dreams you have for your fashion business success.

Customers And Fashion Business
We see these people all around us; in fashion magazines, on the ramps, in advertisements; you name it. Most of them happen to be slender females strutting their stuff or extraordinarily beautiful features. With their sultry looks and flashy pearly whites, they wear the newest supplies from the hottest designers in an attempt to enchant you. Fashion models are right there all over to be seen, but who are the people that bring them to us? Their stylish images are captured with care and precision giving some special look for that style, colour and even the lighting composition. When talking about fashion models we have to talk about fashion photographers also. In the same tone, famous names in the field of photography are as sought after if not more than the models of both the sexes that saunter their way into our conscious life and memories. Among today’s fashion companies, there is an underlying commitment to follow ethical business operations and trading based upon the principle or conviction that businesses can be both profitable and socially responsible.
So, many of the big fashion houses and companies believe that cultivating and building a meaningful long term relationship with their employees, suppliers and the immediate communities is a good business practice that needs to be followed. And, this is what the customers tend to expect from some of the popular brands. This is now the founding principle of different brands and is termed ‘corporate social responsibility’. Fashion is not a phenomenon associated only with a luxurious life style. But, this concept deals with humanitarian aspects as well. The true meaning of fashion is to put a person’s life at ease, and to facilitate humanity with a more appropriate and elegant life style. That is why, these modern fashion companies are carrying on with the practice of supporting those special people in our society with their special attention. This widespread practice is making fashion houses to be responsible towards our people in the community or society.
The market for fashion items and its demands may vary from community to community; from people to people; from culture to culture. For instance, the range may be different in a London store when comparing with the varieties available at a Singapore or a China store. No doubt, in the modern world, where the East meets the West, the multifarious culture, sociological influences and psychological needs can influence fashion designers and companies in their efforts to provide a vast canvas for the diverse range of customers worldwide. Modern day fashion is multi-cultured, global, and culture and society friendly. At one end, it stands to emphasize the collective psychology and trends of a whole society. And, at the other end, it deals with the specific individual needs of its customers. The healthy trends, balanced life and styles, and busy work schedules are the areas these fashion companies have to give more consideration for. The concept of being relaxed oneself and making others feel the same by wearing comfortable, trendy and eye-catching outfits that come in soothing colours is the order of the day.

First Steps Into Starting your Own Fashion Business
Many individuals have a strong passion for fashion and dream of starting their own fashion businesses but either consider the whole process to be extremely complicated or fear leaving their comfy job for a new career which they are unsure of what its results will be.
Having acted as a consultant for various fashion business start-ups one thing I always advise is you won’t know unless you try. Starting out your own fashion business can be very daunting and a lot of commitment is involved.
Having started my first ever fashion business at just 18, I learnt that commitment and passion were the two forms of motivation you needed to help you succeed.
A question one needs to ask themselves before embarking on their fashion business start-up mission is exactly what type of fashion business they want to start up.
You may be a creative thinker and decide to become a freelance fashion writer, you may like sales and shopping therefore may start your own boutique which can be online or offline.
There are so many fashion business ideas out there and your first steps are really researching which option you feel you will be good at as well as enjoy.
I myself loved selling and buying therefore set up my own successful jewellery business which I managed for two years and loved every minute of it.
Note down 5 crucial questions you would like to know about the sort of business you are looking to set up and contact and speak to other people who are currently running businesses in your area of interest and ask them the 5 crucial question you noted down. It will save you lots of time researching and will also give you a realistic insight into what is involved.
Good luck!

Increasing Fashion of Virtual Office

What are virtual offices?
The term virtual office first came in existence through an article, written by Christopher Kern, published in an American Airlines Magazine named as American Way. Virtual offices are shared office services with all the facilities of a modern office. This type of office setup gives you a business address in your desired city along with all the required facilities to run your office properly.
The fashion of virtual offices are limited to popular cities like New York, London, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangluru etc. due to its large population and huge market. The companies prefer to operate in a city who have a large potential customers. The populous cities fulfill this demand accurately and are the most preferred destination to start a service like this.
When to go for Virtual Office?
There may be different criteria for all individuals and also the different requirements for virtual office. Following are some of the time when one want to hire it:
* When someone wants a launch a new product or have some new idea foe a new product to launch.

Men’s Fashion Week
While Lakme Fashion Week still in progress here in the country, London Fashion Week continued to woo fashionstas in style. This time the fashion fiesta became the talk of the world for a number of reasons and the most important one was the 25th anniversary of the event and a new venue in 180 The Strand moments away from Somerset House. This being a significant year, there were a host of big-names showcasing their designs. Burberry, Pringle, Jeremy Scott and Sass & Bide. Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders and Antonio Berardi also returned to the city to stage fashion shows here. London Fashion Week kicked off with a fresh air of optimism, enthused by London womenswear designer, Caroline Charles. With five changing themes, Charles kicked off with Cruise- a cutesy collection of poppy polka dots, romantic ruffles and flirty shorts. The designer, who was awarded an OBE after celebrating her 40th anniversary in fashion, then followed with Resort- an exotic compilation of fifties style tunics and cropped trousers, accessorising with heavily beaded necklaces, chunky bracelets and sun hats.
Bora Aksu collection was inspired by the Oscar Wilde story ‘The Happy Prince’. True to style, there was an array of textures and fabrics, with tulle and lace being the order of the day. Shades of black, cream and ballerina pink dominated. With futuristic takes on modern classics (think pleated brocade coats with sculpted shoulders and high-rise collars in berry hues with metallic touches), the makeup was feminine, modern and fresh to complement it in Paul Costelloe show. Farm boy turned mystic water colourist Emil Nolde was name checked by Nicole Farhias the inspiration for this SS10 collection. Harem trousers looked subtle rather than attention seeking. There were classic shapes with clever flourishes, including a jade-green skirt with a hip-complimenting V-fold and a jacket and skirt in a textured, woven raffia check. Osman You sefzada’s beautifully soft shapes, simple, clean and interesting line dresses were awesome. Mark Fast’s collection was full of crocheting and knits but nothing granny like about this collection! It was fine whether it is an overdress or soft jewellery. Mary Katrantzou had colourful and kaleidoscopic prints, which perfectly suited the summer season. Biker meets Boho designs with tassels by Aminaka Wilmontare still talk of the town.
Peter Pilotto without any surprise stuck to gorgeous prints and draped dresses which made it to the wish list of every female. Paul Smith’s old fashioned Britishness and quirky eclectic style was commendable and very elegant. Josh Goot presented some really eye catching pieces in a mixture of bright colours and optical monochromatic designs. Christopher Kane used a really unusual use of gingham checks to create beautiful and feminine dresses.
Todd Lynn’s silhouettes with the shoulders almost sprouting into wings were larger than life, but still wearable. Marios Schwab showcased a mixture of layering, textures, draping, all put together so cleverly for an elegant look. Meadham Kirchoff’s clever use of layering and texture was the highpoint of the collection with a great contrast between flowy and structured. British Household name, Clements Ribeiro showcased a still-life presentation of their newly-revived eponymous label. Aquascutum offered a sophisticated take on all things summery. A collection centred around long lengths and muted colours, the show was about grown up, classic pieces that don’t yell for attention yet catch the eye with sheer elegance and strength. Giles Deacon focused on accessories this season. The heavy, complex necklaces comprised of silver balls, Swarovski crystals, chains and various other jewels which were particularly impressive. Insect rings are sure to go down in a storm.
Burberry closed the week with the showing of its Burberry Prorsum womens wear line. Bright colours and long dresses featured prominently on the catwalks at many of this year’s spring/summer shows thereby setting a trend. From plus-size models on the Mark Fast cat walk to Slum dog couple Freida Pinto and Dev Patel holding hands in the front row at Burberry, London Fashion Week spring/summer ‘10 certainly caused a stylish stir.
